Theater is also alive and well in Paris from the grandeur of Comédie Français to slapstick farce and avant-garde drama.
Paris has been known to play host to visiting companies and it attracts many foreign productions, usually in their original language. Theater season is September to July. National theaters close in August, but many independents remain open.
