Overview Inside Tips
Founded by Georges Pompidou, this 20th-century museum houses modern and contemporary art in all forms. The architectural design of the building itself suggests what lies within. Escalators on the outside of the building take visitors between the floors, with the exhibitions on the sixth level and the permanent museum on levels five and four. French collections from the beginning of the 1900s to the present day are showcased in chronological order, including modern art, contemporary art, graphic art, architecture and design, photography, new media and films. There are also 1,400 works by great artists who built modernism, including Matisse, Picasso and Miro.
Don’t miss the Atelier Brancusi, located next to the Centre Pompidou. The building contains the contents of Constantin Brancusi’s studio, including a
collection of the artist’s work, tools and personal
possessions. A museum ticket will gain you entrance here.
The Centre Pompidou also offers various shows, including theater, dance and concerts, as well as cinemas and Ircam concerts (the Ircam is a musical research institute). There is a restaurant, café and a cafeteria, several bookshops and a design gift shop. There is also a cloak room, post office, automatic teller machine and telephones.
